For the past seven years, Memosoft has proudly led Timing & Scoring and Sports Presentation at the Canoe Marathon World Championships. During this time, we have worked hand in hand with the International Canoe Federation (ICF) to transform the visibility and image of this discipline, helping it reach new levels of professionalism, excitement, and global reach.
A Turning Point in 2018
Until 2018, Canoe Marathon presentation relied on traditional TV graphics and basic RFID split timing. The discipline, though rich in tradition, lacked the dynamic and data-driven features that other sports were already showcasing.
That changed in Portugal in 2018, when Memosoft introduced a new vision for Canoe Marathon. By integrating GPS technology as the default presentation system and developing an innovative tool for International Technical Officials (ITOs), we redefined how the sport could be experienced.
On 6 September 2018, Canoe Marathon entered a new era: for the first time, races featured full GPS coverage of every boat on the water. This breakthrough allowed fans, commentators, and officials to follow real-time positions, lap times, distances, speeds, portages, and group gaps. It also offered ITOs an invaluable tool for race management and served as a reliable backup to the timing system.
Continuous Innovation
Since then, Memosoft has continued to push the boundaries of sports presentation. Key milestones include:
Advanced algorithms to calculate real-time distance covered and distance remaining.
An automatic lap counter, improving accuracy for officials and spectators alike.
A lap-line animation that makes group positions easy to follow.
A complete redesign of TV graphics, fully aligned with ICF branding and visual standards.
These innovations have set a new benchmark for Canoe Marathon, offering an engaging experience both on-site and for global audiences.
Looking Ahead
While Memosoft will not be present at the 2025 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships in Győr, but this moment marks not an end. The past seven years have built a strong foundation for the sport’s growth, and we are confident that the standards and innovations we introduced will continue to inspire the future of Canoe Marathon.
We extend our warmest wishes to all athletes, teams, and organizers in Győr. We are excited to return soon—already looking ahead to the 2026 European Championships in Romania and the 2026 World Championships in Argentina.
The story of Canoe Marathon is still being written, and we are proud to have played a key role in its evolution. The best is yet to come.
