Last week, Memosoft was in Luanda, Angola, to support the 12th edition of the African Canoe Sprint Championships, organized by FADEN – the Angolan Nautical Sports Federation.
Following the general negative comments on the previous edition held in Nigeria in 2023, Memosoft had long aimed to assist this year’s event. Sharing a common language and benefiting from existing connections between the two countries, the offer to collaborate with FADEN emerged naturally. After several months of preparation, and thanks to a last-minute opportunity, all arrangements were finalized. Over the course of five days, Memosoft provided organizational consulting as well as full timing and scoring services for the championships. This was only possible with the support ICF that support our presence costs.
The experience proved highly rewarding — not only for the unique setting, but also for the chance to reconnect with the foundations of the sport. Compared to European or World Championship standards, the event operated with more basic resources, yet Memosoft found a remarkably motivated and hard-working organizing team, led by Mpemba, Vice President of FADEN and the key contact throughout the process.
These championships highlighted the significant efforts being made across Africa to elevate canoeing and strengthen the quality of competitions on the continent. Over the three days of racing, numerous contacts were established, valuable experiences were shared, and support was provided to the ITOs present.
Looking ahead, the plan is to attend the 13th edition next year in Algeria, continuing Memosoft’s commitment to supporting the development of canoeing around the world.
